1. _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_i_o_n
Developer Magic/WorkShop is a set of integrated programming
tools that enable the individual programmer to analyze code
structure, to debug compiled code and to tune run-time
performance. Together the WorkShop tools provide a multi-
view, interactive programming environment for developing
software in ADA, C, C++, or Fortran.
The main WorkShop components are the debugger _c_v_d, the
static analyzer _c_v_s_t_a_t_i_c and the performance analyzer
_c_v_p_e_r_f. In addition, WorkShop also provides an annotated
source code viewer, a build analyzer, online documentation
and a help system.
Note: Packaged with the product is a separate sheet that
contains the Software License Agreement. This
software is provided to you solely under the terms
and conditions of the Software License Agreement.
Please take a few moments to review the Agreement.
This document contains the following chapters:
1. Introduction
2. Installation Information
3. Changes and Additions
4. Bug Fixes

1.2 _H_a_r_d_w_a_r_e__R_e_q_u_i_r_e_m_e_n_t_s
You should have at least a minimum of 32 Mbytes of RAM to
run WorkShop but 64 Mbytes is recommended. Furthermore many
of the programs have large address spaces and therefore use
a large amount of swap space. Silicon Graphics suggests
that if you see the tools being killed due to lack of swap
space, increase the virtual swap with _c_h_k_c_o_n_f_i_g _v_s_w_a_p.
1.3 _L_i_c_e_n_s_e__R_e_q_u_i_r_e_m_e_n_t_s
You must have a license to run WorkShop. There are two
types of licenses applicable to WorkShop: _n_o_d_e-_l_o_c_k_e_d and
_c_o_n_c_u_r_r_e_n_t _a_c_c_e_s_s. Node-locked licenses are valid only on
the machines where they are installed. Concurrent access
licenses can be passed around to different machines on the
network. WorkShop's initial temporary license is node-
locked, and the permanent license can be either node-locked
or concurrent access.
See Chapter 7, ``Activating Your WorkShop License'' for more
details about obtaining and installing your license. You
cannot run the product until you have a license installed.
1.4 _O_n_-_L_i_n_e__R_e_l_e_a_s_e__N_o_t_e_s
After you install the on-line release notes for a product
(the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s subsystem), you can view the release notes on
your screen.
Note: You can read the online release notes for most
products before installing the software.
If you have a graphics system, select ``Release Notes'' from
the Help submenu of the Toolchest. This displays the
_g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) graphical browser for the on-line release
notes.
Refer to the _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) man page for information on
options to this command.
- 3 -
If you do not have a graphics system, you can use the
_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s command. Refer to the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) man page for
accessing the on-line release notes.
1.5 _O_n_-_l_i_n_e__M_a_n__P_a_g_e_s
The following man pages are provided on-line with WorkShop:
_c_v_b_u_i_l_d(1) _c_v_c_o_n_f_i_g(1) _c_v_c_o_n_n_e_c_t(1)
_c_v_c_o_r_d(1) _c_v_c_o_v(1) _c_v_d(1)

the books with _i_n_s_i_g_h_t(1).
The SGI help utility uses the online documentation for help
references. To use the help system, the online books need
to be installed.
